FAQ
(Frequently Asked Questions)

It's normal to have doubts! Here are all the answers in 30 seconds or less.

Actually, no or very little.

Almost all my patients report no pain after surgery. The few who have discomfort control it just with acetaminophen.

We currently perform surgeries in the Clinic of Otorhinolaryngology and Plastic Surgery of Cali. A clinic with more than 30 years of experience with all the necessary medical conditions for patients like you.

The costs of a rhinoplasty are very variable, it depends on what you need.

Usually, it is defined in consultation and with a detailed evaluation. As it is not a product for sale, I could only give you a definitive value after seeing you in the office.

  1. Avoid consumption of Garlic, Ginseng, Ginko Biloba, Ginger, and Goji seeds.
  2. Prepare your recovery time at home, and organize your study, work, and disability schedules which is usually 5 days.
  3. Lead a healthy life. NO CIGARETTE or similar. Inhaled chemicals delay recovery by acting as perpetrators of the inflammatory process.
  4. Healthy food and frequent exercise will always be the answer to the best state of health in any medical event.
  5. Get at least one companion for the day of your surgery. Let yourself go... It's the surgeon's turn to "shine".

For rhinoplasty we use general anesthesia, this means that you will not feel anything, you will not notice anything.

In addition, throughout the procedure, we monitor vital signs, anesthetic depth, and medication levels, which makes everything very safe and with a quick awakening.

It is very rare for a completely healthy person to have a fatal outcome from anesthesia. The statistic is 1 per 100,000 people who undergo elective surgery.

That is equivalent to 3 times the capacity of the Pascual Guerrero soccer stadium, the same as saying 0.001% probability. A very low number, close to zero.

Risks can be

  1. Allergic reaction to medications.
  2. Difficulty in intubation or ventilation (respiratory).
  3. Reduced nutrient supply to vital organs (cardiovascular).

Risks can be reduced in this way:

  • Giving up smoking, vaping, or psychoactive substances.
  • Reducing sugar consumption.
  • Losing weight if overweight.
  • Exercising, improving physical fitness.

I am an otolaryngologist and facial plastic surgeon and I focus exclusively on rhinoplasty preservation.

Rhinoplasty is a surgery that changes the anatomy of the nose and in some cases can improve the space through which air passes.

Sometimes rhinitis symptoms improve, but it is never permanent. Rhinitis is not cured by surgery.

No. The reasons for the loss of smell are very varied and usually do not require surgical treatment.

No nose stays the same for life, even without surgery.

The natural aging of tissues causes the nose to change. Surgery gives it a better structure but does not stop time. However, there is no need to panic.

Usually, the changes are small and occur slowly over the years.

Of course!

We simply make a detailed analysis of your case, evaluate what you want to improve, and together we decide the best solutions.

In the initial analysis of your case, I make a digital approximation of what I believe, can, and want to achieve with your surgery. Most of the time the results are very similar or even better than the digital design.

So although I cannot see the future, during the face-to-face consultation I can show you the change I would like to obtain, with the digital design I made on the photos of your own nose.

This is one of the most important points for a good result and it depends on you.

A healthy diet helps inflammation to be controlled quickly and healing to be correct.

A diet based on sugars and processed foods, poorly balanced and with few vegetables, activates in the metabolism a whole system of various elements that promote inflammatory processes and generate defective healing.

Eating healthy is not a trend. It is the best way to avoid diseases and, with rhinoplasty, to obtain a better result.

During rhinoplasty the cartilage and bone structure is modified, but the skin should not be touched. So the shape of the nose depends on the structure under the skin.

The thicker the skin may make it more difficult to take the shape of the new structure, also thicker skin tends to have more inflammation in the postoperative period.

There is usually little swelling and little bruising. However, there are exceptions and some people may have more swelling and bruising. This is actually difficult to predict, but normal, considering the procedure.

It is usually not an inconvenience in the nose.
Since it is an area of very little tension, healing is usually not a problem if you follow the recommendations.

Hair salon treatments usually use different chemicals and a lot of heat. I suggest not doing any salon treatments 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery.

No. The operating room should be entered without nail polish, as these cosmetics do not allow the sensors to work properly during anesthesia.

Well, this type of situation is feared by all patients, not just you. Don't worry! First of all, you must be patient, the swelling and inflammatory changes of the nose after surgery are long-term, they can last from 12 to 18 months so you should not rush.

On the other hand, although the majority of patients have a satisfactory result, a small percentage of people require additional surgeries to fine-tune some details. These are usually small and relatively simple touch-ups.

Nothing serious. It is not the end of the world. Sometimes small adjustments need to be made to residual defects that may appear as a result of the inflammatory process and healing.

Everything is always discussed as a whole and
and in a very loving way in the follow-up consultations.

Between 0 and 1. It is very mild. If present, it is usually managed with common analgesics such as Acetaminophen.

The initial controls are the first and second week. In them, the bandages are changed, and the nose is cleaned and evaluated. Thereafter the controls will be every 1 to 3 months according to the evolution of each person.

I do not need to use a splint in my cases. With the technique I use, the nose is completely fixed internally. Only a bandage with Micropore is needed.

The sensation of the upper lip "asleep" and with low mobility is frequent. It is due to the initial swelling and usually improves gradually from the first week after surgery.

  1. Do not wet, manipulate, or touch the bandage I made you in surgery.
  2. No exercise, swimming pool, beach, or direct sun exposure during the first month.
  3. Use sun protection with creams and hats.
  4. Eat healthy; have lots of vegetables, hydrate well, and stay away from sugars and processed foods.
  5. Do not smoke.
  6. Do not drink alcohol.
  7. Use Ice for the first 48 hours.
  8. Sleep in a semi-sitting position for the first week.
  9. Use the medications in the doses and schedules indicated.

Finally, read carefully all the recommendations and instructions that we give you on the day of the surgery, your participation in the postoperative period is key in the final result.

  • Do not smoke, at least 15 days before surgery.
  • Avoid getting the bandage wet.
  • Avoid the sun, use sunscreen, and physical measures such as caps and hats.
  • Avoid intense physical exercise for 4 to 6 weeks.
  • Before surgery, you should suspend some medications that increase the risk of bleeding such as anti-inflammatory drugs.
  • Make sure to consult with your surgeon about which medications you can suspend and which you cannot.
  • Road trips of more than 4 hours in the first 5 days.
  • Air travel for the first 8 days.
  • Physical exercise or training for the first 30 days.
  • Contact sports for the first 2 months.
  • Water immersion activities for the first 30 days.
  • Activities that generate heat and excessive sweating for the first 30 days.
  • Invasive treatments on the face such as peelings, laser application, dermabrasions, injection of substances, or similar for the first 6 months.
  • Diving during the first year.

If you are going to have a rhinoplasty, you must wait at least one month before having any other surgical procedure.

Ideally, it is best to wait 6 months to give the skin of the nose time to fully recover and avoid further inflammation.

Ideally, you should wait 8 to 10 days to travel by plane.

¡Of course!

If you need them, use them. It's going to be a little uncomfortable at first, so I recommend that you take 10-minute breaks every hour. If you have contact lenses, they are also a valid option.
